Girl with the Frizzy Hair (2017)
Written for (live) solo trumpet and tape
A few days after hearing a couple of our close friends perform a beautiful rendition of Debussy's "Girl with the Flaxen Hair", my wife (who has wickedly curly hair) offhandedly remarked, "What about the girl with the frizzy hair?" And so was born "Girl with the Frizzy Hair", a piece that chops up, mangles, and refashions the motives of Debussy's piece into a kinetic, non-linear structure.
